MapMap

Simple GIS for Handheld

Frequently Asked Questions

Palm Application

I installed a map to memory card using HotSync, but MapMap Full gives me error when I try to open it.

Currently, MapMap Full does not support installing maps to memory card using Palm Desktop (or, do be precise, it does not support opening PDB files on memory card - instead, it expects "pristine" *.bmp and *.xy files). To install map on a memory card, you should get original map archive from maps download page (one which is not marked as "preconverted for lite version"), and install it as described in manual.

As this appears to be confusing for users, I am going to add support for reading PDB files from memory card, so familiar Palm Desktop install tool can be used.

Is/Will be there GPS support?

There is no GPS support currently. I for sure would like to add it. Not before I get GPS myself though ;-) . My current target is however to make replacement for paper maps which will work for everyone who just has handheld.

Desktop Tools

When there will be GUI to create/install maps?

Jan Simkovic wrote MapsGo map viewer/editor which can be used to prepare coordinate databases for MapMap. Find it on the Links page. MapMap distribution should soon also include lightweight coordinate database editor, contributed by another MapMap user, David Husselmann.

Why all these popups and banners?

UPDATE: Thanks to support of the registered MapMap users, I was able to setup banner-free hosting for the MapMap site.
